-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Package: xvnc4viewer Version: 4.1.1+X4.3.0-21 Severity: minor
I had some ssh port-forwarding tunnel rigged up for the VNC port 5900 and tried to fire up "xnc4viewer localhost", to use that tunnel and connect to the remote VNC server. That failed as follows: > $ xvnc4viewer localhost > > VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.1 for X - built Feb 26 2007 20:38:07 > Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd. > See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC. > > Sun Nov 18 13:27:34 2007 > CConn: connected to host localhost port 5900 > > Sun Nov 18 13:27:35 2007 > CConnection: Server supports RFB protocol version 3.4 > CConnection: Using RFB protocol version 3.3 > main: Local loop-back connections are disabled. I wasted some time probing into the wrong direction, until I realized that the error message "Local loop-back connections are disabled." is non-local, but comes from the remote server. (So no amount of tweaking of the client could possibly help.) In my opinion, this error message could be improved easily. The fairly meaningless "main:" might be replaced with "server says:", or whatever else is appropriate.
