I don't understand this. The python modules do not submit anything;
they pass the information to lastfmsubmitd, which does the submitting.
This is by design.

If the quodlibet plugin "submits directly", i.e., asks for its own
Last.fm account information, implements the AudioScrobbler protocol and
a local submission queue, and makes connections over the network to
submit, then it's not using lastfmsubmitd. In this case the dependency
should be removed.

AFAIK, there is nothing in the included python modules that would be
useful to audio players that choose to reinvent the wheel in this way.

Have you determined that the relevant plugin actually contains its own
AS implementation, yet also imports something from lastfm.*? If so, I
would be curious to know what it is.
