I was able to reproduce this problem with mozilla 1.0.2-3 and have posted a backtrace on the upstream bug.
Because firefox can enter this hanging mode when displaying a menu or other item which grabs the mouse pointer, it has the side effect of hanging access to all X applications. I've seen it hang for several minutes at a time.
