smime_keys init create a folder "~" with subfolders .smime/cerfificates etc. instead of creating the folder .smime/ in ~ (aka $HOME). There's a workaround: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ > ln -s . "~" [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ > l -tr "~" lrwxrwxrwx 1 vsauer users 1 2007-12-01 16:42 ~ -> . This tricks smime_keys.
