Hello,

Please see also the related bug #388160, to implement
support for IBM docking/undocking in acpi-support. There's a
script there to support the dock, but not the bay, using the
kernel's newer "dock" module. Most of the documentation for
handling this on thinkwiki.org etc. is geared towards using
ibm-acpi, and as Henrique has already stated, support for
the docking in there is deprecated.

We don't have bay working yet. Upstream for acpi-support
is Ubuntu, I've prodded Matthew and Paul with my patch and
I think Paul is looking at it (he's recently acquired a
dock). He did mention that a lot of stuff was migrating
away from acpi-support to pm-utils, though.

So in short

    * the "proper" way is to use dock module, not ibm-acpi
        * the dock module is not quite there yet
            * when will it be?
    * in user-space, the "proper" way to do this might be in
      acpi-support, or pm-utils, or some other hotplug
      scripts collection
        * upstream of acpi-support is Ubuntu
        * determine the correct place for t is support
    * I have no clue how to get the IDE bay to hotplug
      anymore.
        * figure it out

I think if you want something workable in Lenny, we will
need to answer some of these questions.

I have a dock, a bay, and a desire to have this working; at
least at the moment, but I have plans to sell my X40 soon.
