Hi, Debian has a wishlist bug that the DHCP client would send the hostname by default.
The full conversation is at http://bugs.debian.org/151820 Ubuntu made a patch that implements the feature, it's at http://people.ubuntu.com/patches/dhcp3.client-send-hostname.patch My personal preference is for these sort of changes to be incorporated upstream, rather than having distro-specific behavioural changes to the DHCP software.
