I can confirm this bug. Installed lenny on a machine on 12/1/07 and it worked fine (netinstall, booting from floppies).
Tried to net-install on another box on 12/8/07 and got this bug. Can confirm that other meta packages besides "standard system" can proceed. However, not installing "standard system" left me with an ustable X after installing xorg and gnome.
