So I've been using mpd configured to use OSS instead of alsa on this one problem system for a couple seeks now.
Basically, that seems to have solved the hang problem nicely. A few times it has stopped in the middle of a song, and after a few seconds, gone on to the next song. When this happens, I see in the log; Dec 11 01:02 : closing oss device "/dev/dsp" due to write error: Input/output error Dec 11 22:12 : closing oss device "/dev/dsp" due to write error: Input/output error I suspect this is another manifestation of the same bug, the frequency is about the same as of the original hangs I reported. I haven't caught a strace of this yet. -- see shy jo
