I rolled back to nv and crashed differently. But I've the feeling nv
and nvidia drivers works differently with dual head and changing the
driver was not enough.

Just resurrected the box picking up X packages from pool one by one.

xorg.conf was working before update.
Xorg log didn't contain any error other than the one shown.
If you still think it may be helpful I can seppuku X and save a full
log.

What surprised me was there were a lot of xorg packages waiting on
hold and they became all upgradable after upgrading aptitude.

I'd take it as a warning to avoid update, or update with care, rather
than a real "bug report".

thanks, it gave me the hope to succeed and I insisted to look into
