Running `meld' without arguments works. With two directories as
arguments (e.g. `meld /var/tmp /tmp'), it terminates with the
following output

When run without arguments, choosing File > New > Directory
Comparison, entering /tmp and /var/tmp and clicking OK, nothing
appears to happen, but the following is emitted on the controlling
terminal:
