AWL is used to average scores. So if your average is 4.4 and the mail you
have is 0.0, it will be increased with 2.2 to get near the average. When you
get a mail that is scored higher than the average, the AWL score will be
negative to decrease the score.

This isn't a bug, it's documented behaviour.
