oops. i had done a quick scan of the bug reports, but somehow missed it.
it should be possible to fix the problem now that apt installs
recommends by default (since version 0.7.7).
The problem is not apt, it's tasksel. The Debian installer doesn't
currently install "recommends", and to make laptops work "out of the
box" we _must_ have these packages available. We're considering a fix
(trust me), but until that happens, this goes into the "not really
fixable" category. :-/
