cdebootstrap can't cope with debs using data.tar.bz2 instead of data.tar.gz in the base system. As the code in src/packages.c is so ugly (goto! Yuck! Useless splitting into several functions! Yuck!), I haven't provided a patch yet. You will need to change the way package_extract and package_extract_self work together, so I guess the maintainer should do this.
