Apparently these files are.....gzipped version of the correct files,
in the package's source tree.

As files are installed gzipped in /usr/share/consolefonts, they are
gzipped *twice*

As a workaround, I suggest you rename the offending files in
/usr/share/consolefonts to foo.gz.gz, run "gzip -d" ONCE on them and retry
loading the fonts.


Please don't ask me how these files ended up as gzipped..:-)
