messages encoded in iso-2022-JP are displayed with a larger font than other messages on my latest icedove install. With my 12 inches screen, it leaves 10 lines instead 13 for reading the message (if it has no attachement) when using the "Classical" layout. This is a 30 % reduction in information. This problem was not happening with icedove 1.5 (but in that case the display of roman characters encoded in iso-2022-JP was very ugly).
