I've created an experimental jack package that incorporates and extends Martin's patch for utf-8 support. I've tested the functionality that I need myself and it seems to work just fine...
Jack is however quite complex (that is putting it diplomatically) and thus I do expect that problems will arise. Therefore, I would very much like some other people to test the package before I submit a patch upstream (it's quite a large patch). The package can be found here: http://chrisvdb.studentenweb.org/jack/ Please note that I did not do 'the right thing' for this package, as I got rid of the patch-directory and incorporated all of the patches immeadiately... this was just to save me some time.
