There is a 'uname' call in the debian/rules script for this source-package. The offending line is "kernel_arch:=$(shell uname -m)", and linux32 does indeed fix the uname problem. It is a Debian script issue, and nothing in the README indicates that a file overwrite happens on 64-bit systems that would affect a build in my situation. Perhaps a notice should be added to the README to that effect.
