Thanks for that abrasive but corrective, useful and pragmatic reply, Steve! Further investigation here shows I can't reproduce the bug in Knoppix, using 'mount.smbfs' v3.0.23d as the client connecting to the same server, (works with 'hdb1' but not 'dev/hdb1'), and I have no proof my alleged 'dev/hdb1' syntax ever worked in Debian. On the Debian box I've since upgraded the kernel, as well as 'smbfs' and don't want to downgrade; plus my 'bash' history has been blanking out recently, have to look into that -- with a complete 'bash' root history for the last month or so I'd find that (un)smoking gun. Probably the 'mount.smbfs' syntax NEVER allowed 'dev/hdb1' and I just misremembered the syntax and blamed it on the samba client. Oy. Red-faced apologies to the 'smbfs' crowd! As you noticed, this doesn't entirely invalidate the bug -- acting stupid often helps find bugs, (stupid's not so useful in BTS reporting though), which is better than nothing. Replies later to the remaining few points that weren't rendered moot, & sorry about the mixup. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
