The first one (test-noth.jpg) should reproduce the bug: $ exiv2 Desktop/test-noth.jpg Exiv2 exception in print action for file Desktop/test-noth.jpg: Failed to decode Exif metadata The second one shows that there is no problem if the file contains an embedded thumbnail.
