Well, without a test case all I can do about this bug is
* Mark it as unreproducible. [Done]
* Ask you to retest with every new Gnumeric release - did anything about
  this issue change with 1.8.1?
* Point out that the Debian sources to Gnumeric do not patch the core
  Gnumeric engine in any way, so issues like this can be reported at
  bugzilla.gnome.org directly - just mention that you're using the Debian
  packages, and if there is something Debian-specific about the issue, the
  developers know where to find me. [Marked accordingly]
* Point out that as documented under
  http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnumeric/how-to-help.shtml, the Gnumeric
  developers have a policy for handling confidential files illustrating a
  problem.
