I'd just like to confirm this is still a problem and the above suggestion makes no difference. Scim/Skim still break input in KDE applications at random. The easiest way to make it happen is to suddenly take focus away from an application while it is changing focus to a new sub window; For example open a search in Konq. just as someone sends you a message which pops up and takes konq's focus.
