That leads to different path names of the upstream directory in the new *.orig.tar.gz and thus a slightly different size of the resulting tarball. When uploading just a new revision while the old *.orig.tar.gz is already in the archives the user is likely to get a warning along the lines of:
Rejected: md5sum for /srv/ftp.debian.org/ftp/pool/main/p/python-babel/python-babel_0.9.1.orig.tar.gz doesn't match python-babel_0.9.1-5.dsc. Rejected: size for /srv/ftp.debian.org/ftp/pool/main/p/python-babel/python-babel_0.9.1.orig.tar.gz doesn't match python-babel_0.9.1-5.dsc. Rejected: 'dpkg-source -x' failed for python-babel_0.9.1-5.dsc [return code: 6400].
