Hi Alexander, I think we have identified the problem -- TheBat doesn't handle certificate request messages properly. To work around this problem, you can add "MAIN_TLS_TRY_VERIFY_HOSTS=" in the exim configuration.
It would be helpful if you could test this and confirm whether it works or not. This bug is quite similar to #459323, see: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=459323 That bug is closed to being closed, and documenting the workaround should fix this bug as well.
