Ah, now I understand: it seems that after Christian Neumair's patchset about $HOME/.thinkfinger.bir support was applied [1], upstream (and me also) forgot to update the documentation about the new tf-tool behavior. Christian provided a patch for the README file [2], but nothing is done for the manpage yet. I'll work on this in the next days.
