Hi,

I seem to be experiencing a similar issue.

after upgrading in the last week, it seems that gnome-volume-manager
stopped mounting my firewire harddisk automatically on the desktop. I
believe that hal was the only relevant package that got upgraded.

I found out that pmount-hal raises an error because it can't seem to
deal with a empty volume.label. Now, since this disk actually has an
ext3 filesystem with a volume label, I couldn't understand why it would
show an empty string, so I tried running hald as root, and sure enough,
the whole process worked again.

Now, I'm not sure how it worked before, but I'm sure it worked up until
last week. I've been using the Gnome 2.10 packages in experimental, so
maybe this is expected breakage, but it has worked before even with the
experimental G2.10 mixed in.

libhal0 0.4.7-4
