Yes, but you can save the playlist using the V command as a .pls file.

The playlist includes file title made from tags and time information so
MOC must read it.

They are scheduled to read when they appear in the interface: when
you've entered a directory with audio files, recursively added a
directory to the playlist etc. They are loaded in background.
