You are not wrong, but I am unsure of the policy of updates to etch and a half. But you have raised a good point that I have not seen yet; etch and a half is updating the kernel packages significantly, but what about all the <module>-source packages in the etch archive? The current ndiswrapper package is quite a large difference from what is in etch, both in upstream and ./debian/* changes, and it is very unlikely that I backport the minimal amount of changes to make an old ndiswrapper compile (and work) with a much much newer kernel image than what is expected. These two points are barriers in my eyes to an updated package for etch and a half, so I'll seek advice further from someone.
