I'm the maintainer for kvm in debian. The patch for this bug also applies to kvm and i've released kvm-63 with it.
The current patch brakes support for qcow images as described in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=470664 I've just tested the current svn version of qemu (0.9.1-2) which also has the same problem.
