Followup-For: Bug #445418 Package: ntfs-3g Version: 1:1.2216-1 This package was fine until I dist-upgraded my system today (last upgrade was around 1-2 months ago, my previous version was 1:1.1120-1).
I've already tried this: chown root $(which ntfs-3g) chmod 4755 $(which ntfs-3g) It didn't help. It did work last time I ran it (previous upgrade). I keep getting this error: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt$ ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 Error opening partition device: Permission denied Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Permission denied Please check the volume and the ntfs-3g binary permissions, and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged It does work as root user and with sudo. Also, I tried adding a line to /etc/fstab and running mount (to make sure the system goes to root), but I get the same error: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt$ mount sda1 Error opening partition device: Permission denied Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Permission denied Please check the volume and the ntfs-3g binary permissions, and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged This suggests that ntfs-3g is dropping any permissions it gets from a suid bit. Also, I tried restarting my system and trying again. Didn't help. Here are my device permissons: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt$ ls /dev/sda1 -l brw-rw---- 1 root floppy 8, 1 2008-03-12 21:34 /dev/sda1 (My user is a member of the floppy group) And here are the binary permissions: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt$ ls /usr/bin/ntfs-3g -l -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 35748 2008-02-22 21:52 /usr/bin/ntfs-3g -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_ZA, LC_CTYPE=en_ZA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages ntfs-3g depends on: ii libc6 2.7-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libntfs-3g23 1:1.2216-1 ntfs-3g filesystem in userspace (F ntfs-3g recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
