Hi,

Unless it's really required to be that way, could you fix that?
I really dislike this limitation....

I wouldn't do this, I'd just keep the current postinst script and ask the question when doing the automatic detection at low priority, to avoid user interaction and require interaction only in the exceptional situation when the autodetection failed (that should only happen only when there's no deb line in any of the sources.list files).

I modified the postinst/config scripts according to my plans.
If you source the confmodule from postinst, it will call the config script.

I wasn't aware of that.
I just changed to remove any reference to postinst from config. Also I removed the other parameters that config doesn't know about (abort-upgrade|abort-remove|abort-deconfigure).

Please pull.

If the top line is 'deb file:///', debootstrap will break. I assume
the only reasonable ones are http://, https://(hmm... would it work
with base system?), and ftp://.

You assume right. The odd thing is that I remember filtering in only http and ftp, but I don't see how I managed to loose that change. Will reimplement it.
