Package: cacti
Followup-For: Bug #466041

Still, the provided crontab in 0.8.6i-3.2 silently ignores some problems like
PHP fatal errors (see #470237).

I would suggest to change the crontab line to something like :
*/5 * * * * www-data /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php
2>/var/log/cacti/poller-error.log | grep 'Fatal error'

Which would help detect PHP dependencies by having a mail sent to root.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,
