Well hopefully the patch goes fine upstream and you can forget about
it and live happily ever after :) Seriosly, it's not the maintainers
responsibility to watch for portability regressions after your patches
are upstream. Just the normal check your packages.qa.debian.org pages[1]
that your package builds fine on buildd's after your upload

I haven't tried qemubuilder but installing debian to
qemu-system-arm with d-i seems to work just fine[2].
