Using the following commandline (all one line)

/usr/bin/qemu -boot c -m 256
-hda /home/daniel/qemu/ubuntu/gutsy-dfd.img
-cdrom /srv/Archives/Libre/ISO/ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso -soundhw
es1370 -no-acpi -std-vga -no-frame -net
nic,vlan=0,mac='03:53:FD:E2:AA',model=i82557b -net
tap,vlan=0,ifname=tap0,script=no

and then waiting for vm to start fails to work. Ping gives
"Destination host unreachable" both from the real machine to the vm and
from within the virtual machine to anywhere.

Using a program that opens /dev/net/tun, binds it to tap1 (or tap0,
same problem either way) and uses '-net tap,vlan=0,fd=x' (where x is
the file descriptor), works.

And that's my crabbing done for the day. Got it out of the way early,
now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or
strangle cute bunnies or something. -- Michael Devore
