squeak does not start up with dash set as /bin/sh.

The offending line is:
derecha=`echo ${1: -3}`
I guess there are more, so unless you want to fix all the bashisms in
the file I suggest to just modify /usr/bin/squeak to run with bash
instead of /bin/sh.
