The man page section on the -i command explains
Since service names may contain embedded minus signs, the staring
entry of a range can't be a service name; it can be a port number,
however.
but the examples just under that lists
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:smtp-nameserver - TCP, ports smtp through nameserver,
host bar
The explanation is right, the example doesn't work.
# lsof -i [EMAIL PROTECTED]:smtp-nameserver
lsof: unknown service smtp-nameserver for tcp in: -i [EMAIL
PROTECTED]:smtp-nameserver
