Happy news! Atsuhito KOHDA has just packaged the mathml fonts.
iceweasel (2.0.0.12-2) now displays mathml flawlessly (apart from a
couple of rare glyphs).

Tested at http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/ and at
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/demo/texvsmml.xhtml

The new font packages are xfonts-mathml and ttf-mathematica4.1.
I recommend adding a Suggests: to them (alongside latex-xft-fonts, which
you already have).

ttf-mathematica4.1 is in contrib, I think it downloads the fonts fron
the net and installs them on the spot. I think that's still safe for a
"Suggests:".

Unfortunately although these fonts fix mathml rendering on screen, they
still print defectively on paper (whether via postscript/default or via
Xprint). I suspect this might be fixed in firefox3 using Cairo for
printing though I haven't tried it yet.
