Hmm? There was at least one fault (hint: double negative), ang gxine worked
fine?

That makes it an fglrx problem, then. You should reassign this bug
accordingly (to whatever package provides the X driver binary, *not* the
kernel module); see http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control for details.
