We're trying to get rid of freetype 1 for Lenny and your
package still depends on libttf-dev instead of libfreetype6-dev:
Build-Depends: libxft-dev, libttf-dev, libesd0-dev, libimlib2-dev, gettext,
libsm-dev, libx11-dev, libxext-dev, libxrandr-dev, libxinerama-dev,
libxxf86vm-dev, libxt-dev, x-dev, xbitmaps, libxcomposite-dev, libxdamage-dev,
libxrender-dev, libpango1.0-dev
Please replace the libttf-dev dependency with libfreetype6-dev; e16 compiled
fine for me.
