I've got the same problem in current versions. vdr-1.4.7-3 vdr-plugin-dvd 0.3.6~b03-8
This seems to be a problem related to patch "opt-46_dvdarchive.dpatch" in package vdr (version 1.4.7). Maintainers, could you please tell us if this patch is included in the recent testing (lenny) package? There are some hints [1] on vdrportal.de saying that you've to comment DVDCHAPJUMP = 1 and / or DVDARCHIVE = 1 in Make.config out to get it work.
