I am not experiencing a problem with this any more. odccm starts fine (and *after* hald) on boot. What exactly are you experiencing, when, and after you do what? Something I have just noticed is that I might be stopping odccm after stopping hald, which is obviously flawed. Might this be a solution to your problem?
