As I understand, this bug appears during boot, so quite quickly after the start of Qemu. In that case it should be easy to bisect it to find the commit which is the culprit. A git mirror of the SVN is available on git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/qemu/qemu.git for easy bisecting. Unfortunately I don't have any Windows 98 CD (nor license) at hand. -- .''`.
