I would love to be able to help you. But I'm afraid I've never have had the time to read the Debian policy manual nor any reference to the Debian packaging tools... I tried looking at the GSL's debian/rules file, but it seems that I'll need some time I don't have now to learn about all the dh_* commands:(.
