For me this happened when I don't have a search and/or domain in
/etc/resolv.conf.  If I add it, it runs fine.  This is probably
not directly related at all, and probably just has an effect on
what is on the stack (or heap?).  It also seems to depend on
setting -g in the CFLAGS or not.  This probably isn't 100%
reproducible.
