It's not unreasonable to install hal on a server, just rather odd. Hal is mostly used in very (hardwarewise) dynamic environments, which a server usually isn't. Just curious what on your server uses hal?
Its a Linutop PC (the old one) with a card reader. It boots from a USB memory stick and uses a memory card for mass storage. Surely not a big number cruncher, but since it consumes only 5W or so it is perfect for a home server running all the time. hal is needed to support replacing the sd card at run time.
