I don't think this fix is correct. You already did it before, and the bug was reopen. (just read the back log of the bug) A patch was also proposed and should be part of this new upstream release to at least support PPC (and probably all the other architectures without parallel port). As you insist, and as I'm not a user on non i386 architectures, I won't play ping pong with you.
