In the debian package for 0.4.4-2, the following changelog entry appears:
* Drop useless dependency on python-setuptools, use distutils instead.
+ Add debian/patches/01_no_setuptools.patch.
python-setuptools is not a "useless" dependency. It supplies the
entry_points mechanism which enables Genshi to work as a plugin for
TurboGears, as well as other frameworks that support the
python.templating.engines plugin system.
In fact, the patch itself removes the entry_points information from the
setup script.
Please drop the patch from the Ubuntu (and Debian?) packaging for
Genshi. That will restore this important functionality.
