gnome-menus cannot handle subcategories which have the same name. for example: the existence of the Debian/Games/Board category (defined at /var/lib/menu-xdg/desktop-directories/menu-xdg/debian-games-board.directory) BLOCKS the display (and the subsequent categorisation of its children into it) of the Games/Board category (defined at /usr/share/desktop-directories/BoardGames.directory) This can be easily verified by installing a "board game", eg gnome-mastermind.
