After swapping around with various GLX versions, I've discovered you're
right. Oops.
I replaced mesag3 with xlibmesa-gl, and got an xserver segv for my troubles
(bug #290809?). However, upgrading mesag3 with the version in unstable (ie
from 5.0.0-5.1 to 6.2.1-5) did the trick. I have downgraded the bug
accordingly.

Ah. When launched from kscreensaver, a single copy spans both screen (which
I much prefer, actually).
The shapes are still only initially placed onto the left hand screen though.
Try:
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/noof -geometry 1024x256
or even:
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/noof -geometry 256x1024
to see what I mean. I have retitled the bug accordingly. :P
