I experienced similar crashes (happy to run in a window, but instant SEGV
when run full-screen), but with some obvious differences:
 * Matrox G450 (but on the other hand I am using the HAL).
 * noof rather than glknots.

What you might want to try is replacing xlibmesa-gl with mesa3 (from either
sarge or sid, current each are different major versions) and see if the
crashes go away. Did for me.

To remove going from hardware to software rendering from the equation,
try enabling xinerama (or disabling DRI) with xlibmesa-gl and hope that it
still crashes. If not, then you have a different bug to me...

I'd try again without loading the HAL, but this is on my work machine...
