I looked into the build log and found that python2.4 is used in all setup.py build steps after the default python, ie. every "python setup.py build" is followed by a "python2.4 setup.py build". This is the real culprit why the scripts hash-bangs get mangled with the python2.4 binary, and I still have to find out what the root cause of this problem is. Perhaps you have an idea Stefan?
